October 2018 - Ottobrunn near Munich – Christian Koenen GmbH and ASM Assembly Systems GmbH & Co. KG have signed a license agreement. Christian Koenen GmbH holds patents for specific technologies and manufacturing processes associated with stepped stencils. The license agreement entitles ASM to manufacture stepped stencils in Germany and sell them under its own brand. In the field of electronic assembly production, stepped stencils are becoming more and more significant with regard to mixed assemblies due to their increasing miniaturization and component density. Step technology allows the stencils to be adapted economically, flexibly and quickly to suit any component mix. Christian Koenen GmbH holds important patents for this technology.
As an all-round solutions provider for the smart SMT factory, ASM and its brand DEK count among the largest stencil providers in the world, offering all kinds of technologies to meet the many different demands placed on stencil designs, including coated or high-precision electroformed stencils for the most ambitious ultra-fine-pitch applications. SASM will sell stepped stencils in Germany in future under the newly acquired license.
“We are technology leaders in many sectors ourselves and respect patents that protect intellectual property. Our partnership with the team from Christian Koenen GmbH also goes back a long way. We are therefore thrilled to have concluded the license agreement and look forward to our continued cooperation,” says Jim Williams, Senior Director Process Support Products at ASM.
“Fully automated precision printing is the first step towards a finely tuned manufacturing chain.
