Formula Student Electric is a great challenge for prospective engineers. Students from all over the world design their own formula racing car as a team at their colleges and universities and then compete against other teams. For the overall score, it is crucial to have the car with the best racing performance and the best design solutions in the field. A good financing and sales strategy is just as important as a clearly structured cost report and a detailed design description. The team with the best total package wins the competition.

At the event, the teams prove that their overall concept is right. The competitions are divided into static and dynamic disciplines. Under the efficiency aspect, fuel consumption over a long distance is also considered as part of the overall score. Before being allowed to start in the dynamic disciplines, the safety of the vehicles is checked by the jury members of Formula Student. The jury is composed of experts from the motorsports, automotive and supplier industries.

TUfast Munich

TUfast is a group of students of TU Munich that design, construct and build a new racing car with an internal combustion engine or an electric powertrain every year.

The company Christian Koenen sponsors the team that is responsible for building the electrically driven racing car. The students use the CK precision stencils for the manufacture of the electronic modules and benefit from the expertise of the technical experts in the Application Center in all matters concerning the optimization of their processes and questions relating to the stencil layout and the printing process.

Prospective engineers build a racing car under time and cost pressure, and then have to prove its performance on the racing track. The team aspires to improve from one year to the next and build a car that will achieve even better results and is technically at a very high standard. The students go through a complex project to prepare themselves even better for their career. Every year, they face the challenge of designing vehicle components that must be even lighter and less expensive, and of integrating the latest manufacturing processes to achieve an even higher speed of the vehicle.

The industry welcomes this initiative and renowned companies support this commitment. Christian Koenen GmbH sponsors this project and greatly enjoys the exchange with the students. In this regard, it is not only important to manufacture and supply the precision tools, but also to assist with process support and technical advice. Almost all universities in Germany participate in Formula Student. Being a Munich-based company, Christian Koenen decided to support the regional Munich team.

Once again in 2015, the TUfast team succeeded in qualifying with fast processing times in the registration quiz for the Formula Student Events in England (Silverstone), Hungary (Győr), Austria (Spielberg) and, of course, for the home race in Hockenheim.

E.Stall Esslingen

The E.Stall Team at the university in Esslingen designs its own formula racing car. The performance of the racing car is then demonstrated on racing tracks in Germany, Austria, Spain and Hungary.

The electronic components of the E-Stall racing car are manufactured using Christian Koenen stainless steel stencils. The required components are developed and produced by the students themselves. A wide range of different electronic systems – battery check, braking systems, engine control and much more – are required to achieve top positions in the contests – the competition never sleeps. The use of high-quality stencil technology from Christian Koenen additionally helps to save on revisions of the prototypes and to manufacture products of enhanced reliability, as well as to increase competitiveness. We sponsor this innovative project because we support the commitment of the young people and make a contribution to developing environmentally friendly drive technologies.

Through innovative technologies, the team successfully completed the various stages with the EVE´13 reliably and passed all dynamic performance disciplines. With the EVE´14, the E-Stall team pursues the target of performing even better on the different racing tracks and reaching an even higher position in the new season.

Formula Student should be seen as a unique near-practice addition to the studies. In all their efforts, the students may not lose sight of economic aspects under that they produce their racing car. Consequently, in the E.Stall Esslingen project, a vehicle is developed and designed for a fictitious sales market of 1,000 vehicles per year. Innovative technology, reliability and economic efficiency all play a very important role in this regard.

Wob-racing team

The wob-racing team is an interdisciplinary project for students studying at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. This project offers students the possibility to gain practical experience alongside their studies. Every year, the team focusses on the concept, design, construction and testing of a Formula Student Racing Car. These are always prototypes that compete against teams from all over the world in a specifically initiated racing series, the "Formula Student".

Christian Koenen GmbH supports the team with the production of metal stencils for the manufacture of the electronic modules.
